Three big server moments in October and how to be ready for each
Three major game releases land within four days. Prepare your Hytale, Enshrouded and DayZ servers with a checklist for backups, mods, updates and downtime.

October is the busiest month for server owners this year. Three big moments land within four days of each other: Hytale's Chapter 1 on 12 October, then Enshrouded 1.0 and DayZ Badlands on the same day, 15 October.
If you want a reminder of why preparation matters, look at Valheim. It left Early Access on 9 September and launched on PS5 and Switch 2 the same day. Switch 2 players briefly lost crossplay because a hotfix couldn't reach the console in time. Nothing was wrong with anyone's server. Big launches simply throw up problems that no patch note warns you about.
Here's what each October moment means for your server, and how to be ready.
1. Hytale Chapter 1: Monday 12 October
Chapter 1, also called Update 7, is Hytale's first major content wave since Early Access opened on 13 January. It brings the game's first handcrafted dungeon, ending in a multi-phase boss called the Gobliterator. It also adds Goblin Breach world events, Rune Abilities and new gadgets such as rocket boots and a hookshot.
Expect a rush of returning players. Hypixel's founder is also offering $15,000 to the first streamer who beats the boss under hardcore conditions, which will keep the update in the headlines.
How to be ready:
Plan a maintenance window on the 12th. An update this size means a new server version on launch day. Tell your community in advance on Discord and in game.
Check your mods. The built-in Mod Browser from Update 6 makes installing mods easier, but compatibility is still your job. Hold back anything not yet updated.
Consider a fresh world. Lapsed players will be looking for new servers around launch. A fresh world is a good way to catch them.
Don't expect everything. The fuller Runeforging system is coming later, and enchantments aren't part of Chapter 1.
2. Enshrouded 1.0: Thursday 15 October
After more than two years in Early Access, Enshrouded hits 1.0 on PC (Steam) and PS5, with Xbox following in 2027. The launch brings new content, combat changes and a higher level cap. It is also the biggest update a dedicated server has had to take.
The big unknown is your world. Keen Games hasn't announced a wipe, but hasn't promised Early Access worlds will carry over either. The full changelog is due around launch day.
How to be ready:
Back up before the 15th. Download a copy of your world and keep that pre-1.0 archive safe, whatever happens.
Know what lives where. Your world sits on the server. Characters don't, so players keep those on their own machines.
Don't promise crossplay. PC and PS5 players can't share a server at 1.0. Keen calls crossplay a longer-term goal.
Update, then restart. Your server needs the 1.0 build before it shows up in the in-game browser again.
Take mods off first, and add them back once they're confirmed working on 1.0.
3. DayZ Badlands: also Thursday 15 October
On the same day, Bohemia Interactive releases Badlands, a paid DLC expansion for DayZ across all platforms. Its new map, Nasdara Province, covers 267 km² and is the largest official DayZ map yet. It ships with update 1.30.
The Steam store page still just says "2026". Go by Bohemia's announcements, which have confirmed the 15th several times.
How to be ready:
Back up and note your mod list before the 15th. A new map and a big update are exactly when mods break.
Remember it's paid DLC. Players need to own Badlands to play on Nasdara. Decide whether your community moves maps, stays put or runs both.
Check your loot settings. Update 1.29 "Road to Badlands" already changed the Central Economy back in July, so some tuning may be overdue.
Two big launches on one day also means a crowded weekend for anyone who plays both. If your group overlaps, stagger your server events.
The launch-day checklist for any game
The details change from game to game, but the routine doesn't.
Back up your world and config, and keep the last pre-update copy untouched.
Write down your mod list, then switch mods off before updating.
Tell your players when the server will be down, and for how long.
Update and restart, then check the server appears in the browser.
Read the patch notes on the day. Port or config changes often only appear then.
Bring mods back one at a time, once each is confirmed compatible.
Get your server ready before the rush
Launch day is when a friend group either keeps playing together or drifts apart. A server that's online, updated and stable when everyone logs in makes the difference.
